“Come.”
She shivered. Such a small statement, a simple command. His voice, deep, resonated deep within her, touched parts of her that she didn’t know where there. Parts of her soul.
He stood so tall, commanding and comfortable with himself and the power he seemed to know he weld.
He had spoken softly, without any hint at displeasure, but she knew instinctively that he was angry.
The muscles in his bare chest flexed slightly, sending a cascade of thoughts through her mind and she mentally scolded herself.
She belonged to no one. She was a human being, not an animal, some pet to be called to a mans side. Yet she wanted to move, to go to him.
Her heart pound loudly in her ears and she felt her legs move on their own. In her mind she let out a painful cry of defeat as she closed the distance between them.
His eyes glittered and a small smile threatened to tug at the corner of his mouth.
“Kneel”
She didn’t think, couldn’t think. Slowly, her body lowered to the ground and she knelt before him, her legs pressed tightly together, back strait, head high looking directly at his handsome face.
He pulled something from his belt. A piece of metal, thin, beautiful, a ko-lar.
“Do you like this?”
That was not his question and she knew it. Her body trembled as the realization came fully into focus, and more when she realized what she would answer.
“Yes”
He smiled then, fully, male satisfaction, and slipped it around her slender throat. She flinched and closed her eyes when she heard the click. The sound that would be forever the door closing on her previous life.
