I started taking hip-hop dance classes my sophomore year of high school and from then on I couldn't stop dancing. I've done two summer dance intensives. My favorite, however, is Latin dancing, especially salsa. I was really involved in high school--I was an editor for our magazine, was a lead in a play without words (it was a drama and very interesting), was on the speech team and was a mentor. I’ve always valued getting good grades, not cuz my parents forced me to but because I wanted to get into a good college and be successful one day.

Well my mom, who's from Argentina, met my dad in Seattle at a family reunion (my grandparents were friends) and before my mom went back to her country my dad asked her to marry him. Crazy love story, huh? When I was a kid I didn’t want to speak Spanish. My parents didn’t force it on me and now I speak it with an American accent. It’s kind of frustrating sometimes cuz sometimes people expect me to be fluent. I guess you could say I assimilated really fast into the American culture…I went to almost all white schools (private catholic ones), loved American food, listened to mainstream radio songs, and always had crushes on American looking guys…like blonds w/ blue eyes, ect… However, in the past couple of years I’ve changed and now am getting closer to my culture and roots everyday. I try to speak Spanish with my mom, though it usually comes out as Spanglish, listen and dance to more latin songs and my favorite foods are my mom’s special Argentine foods. I’ve realized that your culture is really important and you shouldn’t ever be ashamed of it!
