My new photo above is of Katie, a Border Collie. She was one of our bestest extended family members ever (my apologies to the rest of our extended family if you're ready this, love you, too). That is a memorial photo of Katie since she's no longer with us, but we had a great 15 years with her.

Katie was a "miracle" puppy. She had corona virus (as lethal as parvov) when she was just a few weeks old. She couldn't do anything and the vets said that she would die. They said she was weak, but wasn't in pain. My Hunni said she wasn't going to let her die. She took care of Katie day and night. Feed her with a dropper, carried her outside, and wiped her bottom with a warm damp rag to help her potty. After about 2 weeks of this routine, Katie lifted her head on her own and whimpered for her Mom. We knew then she was going to make it, and make it she did.

Katie was the smartest dog that we have ever had (Border Collies are known for their intelligence) and I think she was a genius. We never literally house trained her, and she never did her business in the house. We could let her outside and she would come back to the door when she was done. She would scratch and sorta' knock on the door if we weren't watching. I think she would have rung the doorbell, but she couldn't reach it.

Katie is a great memory in the lives of several other family members, even the extended family members. We miss her, but she lives on in our memories still today!

I guess I'm easily distracted. I'm not Adult ADD or anything. Wow, just saw a bird out of the window. It was a very pretty yellow one with... wait, where was I?

Since adding HP, I've unintentionally bought about 4 people. Every time it happened, I was randomly viewing profiles, and was reading them, too. So, got distracted by something in the profile, or maybe by the picture, and oops, bought them instead of going to the "view next profile" button.

I must say that everyone so far has been understanding; I'm hoping the latest victim to my button clumsiness is the same way. But, I'm blaming this last one on her because she has the mesmerizing eyes. No, really, it was an accident...albeit a nice accident...for me anyway. I have met several very nice people like that and so far no one has actually hated me for it.

I told one of them it was an accident and she said, "So you don't like me?" and that made me feel really bad. It wasn't that I didn't like her, but it was an accidental button click, though I would have done it to make a new friend and, gee, I'm just going on and on. Aren't I?

Now that I think of it, I think I'll blame all of them for having something in their profile or their picture that distracted me! LoL!

So this is a salute to all the accidental new friends that I have made and them being so nice to me when I fumble around with words to say that I fumbled around with the buttons.

Snoopy, my first dog and extended family member, grew to stand about 20" at the shoulders. He was large chested and small waisted, much like a racer. Yet, he had the coloring of a beagle with some some similarities. His ears flopped over, but not like a beagles, more like a breed that has their ears clipped and weren't.

Snoopy stuck by me with everything that I did on our 1.7 acres near the woods. He would go with walks with me in the woods and I even took him day-packing. He would not leave our property unless he was told he could, and he knew all the property lines well.

Snoopy was my pal. We played hard, fetching, tug-of-war, or just wrestling around. He was my best friend and me his. He loved cats. I could never get him to run stray cats off our property. He would let them rub on him; he would even clean or preen them. Oh well. But, he didn't like other dogs on our property and I would have to let him know if it was okay for them to be there or not.

When I was about 16, I was walking home from baseball practice through the woods. I met up with a couple of strays that seemed intent on my demise. Ears back, hair bristling, and deep growling, they started chasing after me, barely staying back enough when I would act like I would fight back.

I headed for our property as fast as I could run, jumping over logs, darting around trees, and shouting for my protector, "SNOOOOOPY!". As I came onto our property, my pal was there to meet me. When he saw the danger, he was ready. Leaving out all the details, my champion killed one of the molesters and seriously damaged the other as it was leaving our property. Snoopy looked at me at the property line, and I called him back to check his wounds (knowing that the other stray was not going to make it). I don't know how, except by his determination to protect me, but he sustained no wounds. When I washed off the blood, not one drop was his.

What a hero! Snoopy lived to be about 15 years old, but his memory will live with me forever.
