Past or Future

The full moon gleams with a fever pitch
Casting silver shadows upon her pale skin
The young mistress of the castle looming
Over looking the swampy, boggish moors
Mistress Von Sylence of the Campbell's
Yes those Campbell's, steeped in mystery
Distant ancestors of mystic ancient lore
Intrepid observers of the planets and their paths
She turns and quickly returns into the castle
I stride up to the gargoyle strewn, gated entrance
Passing the paddock of white Arabian stallions
Each a tower of handsome power and fury
Rumored to be former suitors to the lady of the manor
Cursed forever for their fickleness and wandering eyes
Dry leaf barren branches dance like bones in the wind
With trembling hands I pull the brass door knocker
In my dreams I answer the door as well as knock
Both suitor and servant, the duality is apparent
"Mistress will see you shortly, have a cookie"
She gracefully glides down the white marble stairs
Feral glints in her eyes tell of my mortal danger
But for restraint she would devour my soul fully
In a heart beat and with a bounce and a slow twirl
Blood red lips pursed in intense, quiet retrospect
Her hand in mine we pass the many family portraits
When asked where her parents are She merely smiles
"Oh around" as she hands me a plate of hot cookies
Before my eyes half the cookies quickly disappear
I glance up at her mother's portrait hanging nearby
Are those cookie crumbs on her now smiling lips?
The eyes follow us round the room, fully chaperoned
Suddenly the candle lit room darkens, drawing us close
Then as quickly the candles relight as if commanded
Answering my quiet query she quivers in wicked delight
"Its only great granddad Horace welcoming you to the family"
I feel truly welcomed in this comfortably lived in castle
So whether dream, past life or future event I enjoy it
Reveling in the moment and the memory, praying it'll last
