The Sunset Rises
Imagine yourself on the edge of a cliff, at the end of a thick forest. Far, far below are small houses, more thick forest, and far green open country. Inside you feel heavy, the darkness that’s been with you for such a long time finally feels like its too much to carry. Your eyes are warm with fear, and love. And a soft cool calmness heals your sore skin.
The one who loves you the most approaches out of the forest behind you, the fear in their eyes overwhelms their relief of finding you. Their expression whispers to you in concern. You stair down at the rocky cliff and tree top below. You smile back to them reassuringly. Your loved one comes closer, tears filling their eyes, confusion and sadness engulfing their whole face.
You look out at the big yellow sun in the distance sky and shade your eyes from the brightness of its rays. The warmth fills you completely, closing your eyes you can hear a soft tune. Slowly you lower your head as if to hear the words more clearly. The sun, now sitting on the horizon, casting a deep shadow over the land where its heat can’t reach. You stretch your arms out to your sides feeling the wind pass between your fingers.
Inhale the crisp taste of the air, then slowly let it out. You turn to your loved one, you having a bright smile stretching from ear to ear, tears streaming down your cheeks. You lean forward, over the edge. The sun now nearly gone casts one last shadow, a pair of dark, fringed wings floating on the wind. Beating with the breeze, the shadow soars off into the last of the sun’s set.
