Persistence: Mary Kay Ash
Mary Kay Ash once said, "One of the secrets of success is to refuse to let temporary setbacks defeat us."
The most successful people in history, the ones you remember and honor today, are those who didn't let anything stop them. They are the presidents, the inventors, and the pioneers. While Henry Ford was developing automobiles, people told him he was wasting his time. In fact he failed and ran out of money for his projects five times before he was successful. But he kept going and now look at how many cars are on the roads.
Pablo Casals, who was a cellist, was once asked why he continued practicing the cello six hours each day. He said, "because I think I'mmaking progress." He eventually became the greatest cellist who ever lived.
Dr. Suess's first childrens book was rejected by twenty-seven publishers before it was published. The twenty-eighth publisher sold six million copies of And to Think That I SAw It on Mulberry Street. And Dr. Suess went on to publish many more titles through his years.
No matter how discouraged you become, never let a failure or a problem stop you. Keep going. You will only succeed if you refuse to give up. Figure out what you want to do and keep up the effort until you succeed.
